This is a spectacular piece that encompasses Neiman's stigma; a social maniac that hung out in the hippest places, with high society and playboy bunnies.  Gaslight was the first premier, exclusive club that would eventually pave the way for others like Hugh Hefner's own Playboy Club.
The abstract Jazz musicians intricately placed in this painting provide a spectacular ambiance for the sophisticated men in the foreground.  The heyday of free Jazz was in the 50s and 60s and Neiman was at the heart of its culture.  His paintings like this one, often depict scenes where he and the other social elite enjoyed finest music of the time.

Leroy Neiman will forever be associated with Playboy Magazine for his Femlin sketches that appear on a monthly basis in the "Party Jokes" section.  This relationship is taken a step further with the Playboy model painting presented here. This is a very unique opportunity to own an original, oil on board by Neiman of his famous subject, the Playboy model.
This painting is directly linked to one of Neiman's oldest and most celebrated pieces.  In 1957 Leroy Neiman completed this original study, for his Riccardo's Bar, Rush Street Chicago, painted in 1958 and later produced as a serigraph, "Rush Street Bar" published in 1987.  It is hard to find a more important Neiman available for sale.  Without question, Neiman spent a significant amount of time in the finest drinking and social establishments around the world. His paintbrush with oil and gouache capture the ideals of a bar into a fixed mixed moment, magnificently from the labels on the liquor bottles, to the glassware,  and cash register.  "Rush Street Bar", an original painting, is nothing short of a masterpiece.

This portrait of Nat King Cole was painted by Neiman at Chez Paree in Chicago.  C.P. was the hippest Night Club in the Windy City where Legends like Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and many more performed.  But, of all the A list acts at Chez Paree it was Nat King Cole's star performance that set the attendance record for one appearance. This stunning painting is signed by both Celebrities: Nat King Cole and Leroy Neiman.
It is hard to know if Neiman spent more time in the local pub or casinos with Celebrities, but he was certainly part of the "in crowd".  If you look closely at Neiman paintings that depict these scenes, often one will recognize people from other high places. Hugh Hefner, Sean Connery, Tom Jones, Marilyn Monroe, Paul Newman and Neiman himself often make these cameo appearances.
